CAPT Katrina (Kate) Ryan entered the Royal Australian Navy through the Australian Defence Force Academy in 1990, training as a Maritime Warfare Officer. She served in various Warfare Officer roles, including as Navigating Officer on HMAS GEELONG and as an instructor at the Navigation Faculty, before moving into Navy Headquarters roles in communications, strategy, futures, and personnel.

Since 2006, CAPT Ryan has held positions focused on personnel and workforce planning, and she currently serves as the Director of Modelling and Simulation in the Military Workforce Design Division. She is also the Head of Professional Requirements for the Navy’s Maritime Human Resource Officer Workforce Planning and Analysis stream and a Trustee of the Royal Australian Navy Relief Trust Fund.

CAPT Ryan holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from UNSW, an MBA from Charles Sturt University, and an MSc in Management (Manpower Systems Analysis) from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey.

She is married with two daughters and a very spoiled dog.
