Friday, June 23, 2023, 11:50 AM - 12:30 PM

This session has been developed to overcome one of the common SWP hurdles which is simply getting started. The thinking includes the fact that many SWP projects can be held up by a lack of clear direction with where the organisation is headed and corresponding articulation of strategy.  This session covers two essential activities organisations and individuals can complete, without relying on too much quality data, methodologies, tools, templates and other information, to get the ball rolling.

Each session will include 2 x 45 minute group activities to ensure the sessions are is engaging and collaborative as well as informative. The activity will focus on the following:

  • Clarifying, understanding, and exploring your organisations strategy
  • Scanning the external environment

Participants will work in dedicated groups based on their relative industry sectors. So far, 6 industry groupings have been identified which include:

  • Banking & Finance
  • Consulting & Advisory
  • Defence & Aerospace
  • Government & NFP
  • Mining & Resources
  • Software & Online

Others can be set up as required, alternatively there will be non-specific groups that anyone can join.

This session will explore:

Each group will play the role of a fictitious organisation operating in their respective industry grouping. Groups will receive a concise information pack (such as those included in this document) with some broad background information and a small set of strategic objectives (4 in total).

Learning outcomes:

Session 2 - Scanning your environment

Use the PESTLE Template provided to scan the external environment for your scenario and as a group, identify as many macro-economic factors as possible to be taken into consideration as part of any future SWP activity.
